Orphans and vulnerable children in Luweero praise Red Cross ...

ovcIn a two roomed house in Wakataayi Village, Kakakala Parish, Zirobwe Sub County, Luweero district lives 12 year old primary school going Nakku Sherinah. She studies in Primary four at Kijugumbya Primary school. The household has seven (7) members with a 50 year old Nakimuli Sarah (grand mother) as the family head and Nakku being the second elder child in this home.

URCS promotes life planning skills among Ugandan youth

Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) has called for the promotion of life planning skills and community service amongst youth in schools to enhance holistic education.

Uganda Red Cross Society Focal Person of Life Planning Skills Samuel Opio made the remarks recently while speaking at a four  day  youth camp for out of  students at Ibuje Primary School in Apac district.

Opio said with life skills, the students will be able to cope up with stress, peer pressure and making right choices.

He said the youth only lack life skills to cope with life adding that its useful in community outreach as a resource to be tapped.

Opio said the youth will get life skills like being assertive, creative, self-awareness and copping up with emotions in a bid for them to develop and advocates for others

He added that the youth need to improve the life of the most vulnerable with in their communities so that their lives are developed.

He said the camp targeted the youth in and out of schools in Ibuje sub county under the URCS Apac Branch
 
He said the youth will be deployed in the communities so that they become the Red Cross ambassadors in the communities in advocating for the life saving skills amongst themselves.

The Youth and the Volunteer officer of Uganda Red Cross Society Levi Byaruhanga said similar projects are in the districts of Apac, Adjumani, Masindi Mbale and Kamuli.

He was addressing members of the Youth groups at Ibuje during the mid term monitoring and evaluation of Life Planning Skills Project in Apac district recently

"We wanted this project to cover all the districts in the north to improve the life of our most vulnerable people in the communities" he added
