Background

 

Uganda Red Cross Society, Swedish Red Cross & VI Agroforestry have entered a 3 year partnership to deliver on an innovative project involving WASH, sustainable agricultural methods and agroforestry extension services for  host and refugees families in Parolinya Refugee Settlement, Moyo. The Project for resilience and empowerment of refugees and their host communities in partnership (PREP) project anticipates to build a critical mass of trainers to reach out with alternative options for WASH, support start up income generating activities, increase resilience of the beneficiaries to household water constraints, within refugees’ settlements and host communities, and deliver on adoption of Sustainable Agriculture and Land Management practices. Uganda Red Cross Society is looking for a skilled and people-first oriented Project Officer to support this cause.

Job Purpose:

To get things done and rightly so with all stakeholders including Refugee and Host Community

Responsibilities:

  • The Project Officer shall provide technical support to community volunteers and project steering committee in planning, budgeting, monitoring, evaluating and coordination.
  • Support the design and planning of URCS trajectory activities in the partnership, and provide technical support to staff in implementation of planned resilience activities.
  • Support the Community Resilience Manager in fulfilling technical and financial reporting requirements of the project.
  • Build the capacity of the branches and partners as required through coaching, trainings and providing constructive feedbacks.
  • Regularly monitor the implementation progress of the project and activities by the branches against set indicators.
  • Support Good Communication and Coordination among the partners through regular meetings, coordination events. 
  • Liaise with the local authorities and concerned Government departments regarding project issues particularly on Innovative WASH & Household Food Security.
  • Conduct collection, processing and analysis of technical data from the field and follow up on inconsistencies.

 

PERSONS SPECIFICATIONS

Education Qualifications
  • Academic degree in Environment Management, Public Health, Water Engineering, and relevant area in hydrology and earth sciences.
  • Familiarity with the Core Humanitarian Standards, Livelihoods Sector, Minimum Standards for child Protection in Emergency, Minimum Standards for Protection, Gender and Inclusion in Emergencies.

 

Working  Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated professional experience in disaster risk management, emergency response or development field will be an added advantage
  • Familiarity with working in inter-institutional Partnerships.
  • Track record in participation, technical training, facilitation and awareness raising activities
  • Knowledge of WASH principles, concepts and techniques. Training in Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture is an advantage
Core Competencies and knowledge 
  •  Strong computer skills especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong team-player and good facilitation skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Track record in participation, technical training, facilitation and awareness raising activities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with good understanding of relevant cross-cultural issues.\
  • Ability to supervise and offer mentorship to a group of volunteers.
